SickHaus is a homeware shop from Glasgow, for people who’d rather their home had a personality.
Why we started
Glasgow, 2022Every shop had the same eight things in it.
Pampas grass.Ribbed vase.Teddy throw.Arch mirror.Rattan everything.Mango wood bowl.A sign that says Home.Another beige throw.
So we opened a shop that sells none of them.
The rule.
Four tests. Everything on SickHaus has passed all four. Fail one, and it doesn’t go on sale.
-
01
It changes the room, not just fills it.
Rug, cushion, lamp or chair: if you could swap it for something beige and nobody would notice, it doesn’t make the cut.
-
02
Someone asks where you got it.
The first thing friends pick up when they come round, and the first thing they look up on the way home.
-
03
It works in a real flat, not just a studio.
Small shelves, rented walls, a radiator in the wrong place. Nothing here needs a showroom to make sense.
-
04
You’d take it to your next place.
Not a trend you’re bored of by spring. The thing that goes in the van first.
A note from the founder
“If it wouldn’t make a friend ask where you got it, it doesn’t go on the site.”
I started SickHaus in Glasgow in 2022 because every homeware shop seemed to sell the same safe, sand-coloured stuff. I wanted the opposite: things with colour, and a bit of a sense of humour.
Four years and more than 13,000 homes later, every piece still goes through the same four tests. And when you message us, a real person in Scotland reads it.
